Podkayne of Mars

Originally published in 1963 under title: Podkayne of Mars, her life and times. NOTE: This 1993 hardback Edition (and ebook) from Baen finishes with Heinlein's unpublished Postlude ending of the story, beginning on page 169. At the original publication in 1963, the editor at Putnam did not approve Heinlein's ending, deeming it too grim for young readers, and required him to change it. So the Putnam ending added some more text. The Postlude as first published by Putnam begins on page 177. Also note that Open Library has an better Baen edition (and ebook for loan), openlibrary.org/books/OL15103415M/Podkayne_of_Mars, issued in paperback by Baen in 1995. It includes Jim Baen's thoughts, and essays by the winners of a contest, giving reasons for or against Heinlein's ending.
