This book describes the state of the internet, its basic components and protocols ranging from telnet, ftp and xterm to the www and early web browsers, as current in the early 1990ies. The author was at the time working at the University of Illinois - Urbana Champain (UIUC) which was instrumental in the development of the software architecture of the early modern internet.
