Ours is essentially a tragic age, so we refuse to take it tragically. The cataclysm has happened, we are among the ruins, we start to build up new little habitats, to have new little hopes. It is rather hard work: there is now no smooth road into the future: but we go round, or scramble over the obstacles. We've got to live, no matter how many skies have fallen.

A Novel that Doesn't Stand the Test of Time Exceptionally Well

After four rather dry chapters. I threw in the towel. Life's too short for classics that have lost their luster and significance to time. Side note: Lawrence mentions Connie feels aroused in her womb and I couldn't get over how absolutely strange that was. Perhaps he shouldn't have written about female arousal without consulting his wife for specifics.
