Startide Rising

A crippled spaceship crewed by genetically engineered dolphins, a few humans, and a genetically engineered chimp hides on a mysterious water planet from pursuit by numerous species of aliens who wish both to find out what they have discovered about a legendary ancient species, and to slaughter them and each other.
