It's been a lot of life changes and nearly twenty years since I read any substantial amount of Dykes to Watch Out For, and I was honestly surprised how relevant a lot of the storylines still feel. It was also a little terrifying coming back to it with the knowledge that I'm now about the same age as most of the primary characters and we're far enough into the future that I'm experiencing the exact challenges they predicted in many cases. I have also grown to really appreciate the nuanced portrayals of characters with significant personal flaws, who don't end up becoming about those flaws and who often grow to better manage them.
