Redevelopment and Black life in Pittsburgh in the 1990s
I don't really read plays, but I bought this because it was set in the late 1990s in Pittsburgh, around when I was in high school in the suburbs of the city. Set in the Hill District (a place I was always told not to go), the play lays out all kinds of complicated political relationships. There's a moment where a character essentially does the opposite of Chris Rock's famous N-word comedy bit, blaming those who are trying to get closer to whiteness for a number of problems.
