The "IQ" series by Joe Ide started out well, but seems to be getting progressively worse. In the previous book Isaiah, previously depicted as exceptionally smart and principled starts acting in ways that are neither. Now he has become more action hero than detective. At one point he is captured by and then (spoiler!) escapes from a serial killer, the local sheriff, and a gang of Hell's Angels, all in the same day. Yawn. Later, knowing that others are being chased by serial killers for a couple of hours, he is unable to warn them because apparently everyone including the author has forgotten that cell phones exist. Unrelated subplots involving his friends aren't any better.
