A fascinating, but brutal, story and time of colonial history I didn't know before reading. The overall story could be told in a long Wikipedia entry, I'm not sure the book needed to be quite as long as it is. I found myself losing interest after the main story was finished, I found myself mostly skimming second half of the book.
